Softball Falls to St. Joseph's (Maine) 13-4

St. Joseph's College (Maine) used a six-run sixth inning and 19 hits to help defeat the Albertus Magnus softball team 13-4 on Saturday night in West Haven.

Albertus held a 3-0 lead after three innings before the Monks scored their first run in the top of the fourth to cut into the Falcons' lead. The Falcons scored three runs on four hits in the third inning led by a single from freshman Isabel Lopez (West Haven, Conn.) which plated two Falcons.

St. Joseph's scored its first run in the top of the fourth thanks to an RBI single from Melissa Mayhew.  The Monks added three runs in the fifth to take a 4-3 lead then tallied a six-run sixth inning to take a commanding 10-3 lead.

The Falcons added one run on two hits in the bottom of the sixth as Lopez recorded a solo home run to make the score 10-4.

The Monks answered with three runs in the seventh to secure the conference victory.

Lopez finished the night 2-for-3 with three RBI and one run scored, while Brittney Urciuoli (Newington, Conn.) added a 3-for-4 performance and one run.

Melissa Manning (Milford, Conn.) took the loss as she allowed 13 runs and four walks in the contest. The Monks' Rae-Marie Copan earned the win as she allowed eight hits and four runs in six innings.
