The Albertus Magnus softball team scored the game-winning run in the top of the eighth inning thanks to an Emmanuel College error as the Falcons went on to defeat the Saints 3-2 in extra innings.
The Falcons scored first with two runs in the second inning. Jamie Vesciglio (Stratford, Conn.) opened the frame with a single before scoring on a wild pitch. An RBI single by Veronica Hribko (East Haven, Conn.) gave the Falcons a 2-0 lead later on in the inning.
The Saints tied the game at two with a pair of runs in the fifth behind a two-run single by Jennifer Garrity.
In the eighth inning, with Hribko placed on second due to the international tie-breaker rule, sophomore Brittney Urciuoli (Newington, Conn.) laid down a sacrifice bunt to move the runner but a throwing error allowed Hribko to score the eventual game-winning run.
Jackie Medina (Bridgeport, Conn.) earned her 10th win of the season for the Falcons. She allowed two runs on eight hits, while striking out two. Emmanuel's Kelly Lloyd suffered the loss as she allowed three runs, two of which were earned.
