Softball Splits a Pair of Non-Conference Games to Bay Path and Pikeville

Myrtle Beach, S.C. - The Albertus Magnus College softball team split a pair of non-conference games to Bay Path and the University of Pikeville as part of the Fastpitch Dreams Classic on Tuesday afternoon. The Falcons blanked the Wildcats 6-0 in the opener, but fell to the Bears 7-1 in the night cap.

FINAL SCORE (G1): Albertus Magnus 6 | Bay Path 0
FINAL SCORE (G2): Pikeville 7 | Albertus Magnus 1
RECORDS: Albertus Magnus (2-1) | Bay Path (0-1) | Pikeville (9-6)

HOW IT HAPPENED
Game 1:

Albertus Magnus opened the game scoring one run on two hits and a Wildcat error to take a 1-0 edge over the hosts.

In the bottom of the third, sophomore Laura Anderson (East Haven, Conn.) extended the Falcons' lead to three, 3-0, as the right-hander knocked it out of the park for a two-run RBI.

Albertus Magnus continued to swing the bat in both the fourth and fifth inning putting the game out of reach for the Wildcats, 5-0, thanks to an RBI from Marissa Guglielmi (Branford, Conn.) and Kayla Gosselin (Milford, Conn.). Bay Path threatened the Falcons in the bottom of the fifth with runners in scoring position, but solid pitching and a defensive stop kept the Wildcats at bay.

The Falcons would put the game away scoring their final run in the seventh to take home the "W".

Game 2:

Pikeville came alive in the top of the sixth, scoring five runs on six hits and two Falcon errors, before taking a commanding 7-0 lead the following inning, after scoring another two from Kitty Raymond and Chandler Kelly.

Albertus Magnus could only score one run in its final at bat, 7-1, as rookie Jasmine Roman (Hartford, Conn.) scored off a RBI double from junior Maxine Sanchez (Corona, N.Y.).
