Myrtle Beach, S.C. - The Albertus Magnus College softball team split day a non-conference doubleheader to Brevard College and Keystone College on Tuesday afternoon as part of the Fastpitch Dreams Spring Classic. The Falcons were shutout in game one to the Tornadoes, 6-0, but bounced back in the night cap, 13-6, against the Giants.

THE BASICS
FINAL (G1): Brevard 6 | Albertus Magnus 0
RECORDS: Albertus Magnus (3-2) | Brevard (7-5)

HOW IT HAPPENED

Brevard took the lead for good with a three-run first inning, paced by a sac RBI bunt from Beth Hyatt and a pair of RBI's from Jocelyn Folkers and Kat Carroll.

With two outs and runners on second and third in the top of the second, Emily White doubled to left field, scoring both runners, and extending the Tornadoes lead to 5-0.

After a scoreless inning, Brevard struck again, scoring a single run in the top of the fourth to put the game out of reach, 6-0. Albertus rallied in the bottom half of the inning with Ava Gladwin (Guilford, Conn.) on second and Karissa Kerrs (Wappingers Falls, N.Y.) on third following a fielding error by the centerfielder, but solid defensive work by the Tornadoes ended the threat with three straight outs.

Sophomore Kayla Resto (Shelton, Conn.) suffered her first career loss as a pitcher, allowing six runs on seven hits over seven innings of work.

Alyssa Flynn picked up the win for Brevard after allowing one hit over five innings of play. Kaitlynn Farmer also made an appearance on the mound and allowed one hit over two innings of relief.

KEY STATS

THE BASICS
FINAL (G2): Albertus Magnus 16 | Keystone 3
RECORDS: Albertus Magnus (4-2) | Keystone (1-5)

HOW IT HAPPENED

Keystone struck first in the bottom of the first frame, on a single by Shannon Lloyd and an RBI-double by Paige Mokychic. A Falcons error scored a second, unearned run for the Giants', before Erin Dighelllo (Wallingford, Conn.) retired Erin Dunn to end the Giants' threat.

The Falcons were held hitless until the third inning, when Jess Stettinger (East Haven, Conn.) singled up the middle with two outs. Jenelle Franklin (Middletown, Conn.) and Laura Anderson (East Haven, Conn.) followed with their own singles to load the bases, but the Giants' Marlena Pegula was able to end the threat when Kayla Gosselin (Wallingford, Conn.) lined out to left field.

Lauryn Rodriguez led off the fourth inning for the Giants with a triple to right field and later scored on an RBI-groundout by Shelby Reese to make it a 3-0 game in favor of Keystone.

The Falcons came alive in the fifth, hanging a crooked number and taking the lead 4-3. A single by Gladwin and a Keystone fielding error put two Falcons on for L. Anderson, who promptly tied the game at three with a moonshot over the left field fence. Gosselin and Breanna Saldivar (Middletown, Conn.) continued the Falcon hit parade, before Kerrs lasered a ball to right field for her fourth career RBI. Keystone failed to respond in the bottom half of the frame, as Dighello held the Giants scoreless and tallied another strikeout.

Gladwin and Stettinger started off the sixth for the Falcons with a single and a walk, respectively, before Anderson smashed an RBI-double into the left corner. With runners on second and third, Gosselin whacked a towering drive over the left field wall for three RBI's, bringing the score to 8-3. Dighello did her part in the bottom half of the inning throwing a perfect three up, three down inning.

Coming into the final frame of the game, Fatima Rosales (East Elmhurst, N.Y.) led off for the Falcons with a scorching double into left field. A Stettinger single put runners on the corners with one out for Franklin, who singled up the middle, plating Rosales. Anderson then rocketed her second double of the day to the center field wall, plating Stettinger and sending Rosales to third. Gosselin followed with an RBI-groundout, before Peyton Davis (North Haven, Conn.) slashed a sharp single into center field, scoring Anderson from third. A Giants' miscue of a Saldivar ball scored Davis, before Kerrs singled to right field and was thrown out at second trying to stretch it to a double.

Trailing by ten, 13-3, in the bottom of the seventh inning, the Giants went to work on their comeback attempt. A pair of singles set the stage for a Lloyd RBI-base hit into center field. Mokychic followed with an RBI-double, before Dighello regained control of the game, inducing a fly-out from Rodriguez to seal the win for the Falcons.
