Softball Suffers 12-3 Setback Against Immaculata

Myrtle Beach, S.C. – The Albertus Magnus College softball team concluded day four of its Spring Break trip to the Palmetto State with a 12-3 setback against Immaculata University.

THE BASICS
FINAL
: Immaculata 12 | Albertus Magnus 3 – 5 innings
RECORDS: Albertus (4-4) | Immaculata (9-1)

HOW IT HAPPENED
Albertus opened the scoring in the top of the second with an RBI single and impressive base running from Ava Gladwin (Guilford, Conn.) to take a 2-0 lead. In the home half of the inning, Immaculata responded with a pair of runs of its own courtesy of an RBI single from Laura Dilucia and a defensive miscue by the Falcons to even the score at 2-2.

Immaculata used this same combination in the third inning as Paige Gerst recorded an RBI single before Michaela Petito came around to score on an error by the Falcons to claim a 4-2 lead.

In the home half of the fourth, Immaculata turned in an impressive eight-run inning, which was started by a solo home run off the bat of Keani Hindle. Immaculata's offense didn't stop there as four different players recorded RBI singles to extend the lead to eight, 10-2. Hindle added another two runs via an RBI double, which gave Immaculata a commanding 12-2 lead.

Albertus responded with a run of its own during the top of the fifth thanks to an RBI double from Laura Anderson (East Haven, Conn.), but it was not enough to avoid the 12-3 setback on Thursday evening.

Sophomore Erin Dighello (Wallingford, Conn.) picked up the loss for the Falcons as she allowed 11 runs on 15 hits. She also struck out three batters. Sophomore Kayla Resto (Shelton, Conn.) came in for relief for Dighello in the bottom of the fourth and allowed one run on two hits.
