SUNY Poly opened the game scoring in the top of the first by scoring two runs off back-to-back RBIs to take the early lead over the Falcons.

Two innings later, the Wildcats doubled their advantage to 4-0 behind another two-run inning, but in the bottom half of the third Albertus countered with a two-run, two-hit inning to cut the deficit to two, 4-2.

Albertus continued to fight as an RBI single from Skylar Arent (New Fairfield, Conn.) in the bottom of the fifth drove in Ava Gladwin (Guilford, Conn.) to make it a one-run game, 4-3.

In the top of the seventh, SUNY Poly scored an additional run off an RBI sac fly to right field to give the away team a two-run cushion, 5-3, heading into the final half of the inning.

Albertus' final push came in the bottom of the seventh when Gladwin was able to cross home behind an RBI single from Janelle Franklin (Middletown, Conn.), making it a one-run game, 5-4. However, a strikeout ended the threat and left the tying run on first.

Box Score

KEY HIGHLIGHTS

Keene State kicked off game two of the doubleheader with the early 1-0 advantage following a one-run, two-hit inning in the bottom of the first.

Solid defensive work from Albertus in the bottom of the second kept Keene State at bay until the bottom of the third as the Owls scored an additional three runs to take a commanding 4-0 lead.

Bats came alive in the top of the sixth as back-to-back doubles from Gladwin and Resto got things going offensively for the Falcons. Resto's double drove in Gladwin for Albertus' first run of the game, while Arent allowed Resto to score from second off of another double. Despite two outs, Fatima Rosales (East Elmhurst, N.Y.) kept the Falcons' at-bat going by tallying the fourth double of the inning and driving in Arent from third. Unfortunately, Albertus' sixth-inning rally came to an end with a ground out to second.

The Falcons continued to battle in the top of the seventh by putting a runner on base following a hit-by-pitch with one out, but back-to-back outs forced the game and threat to end.

KEY STATS

  • Erin Dighello (Wallingford, Conn.) picked up the loss for the Falcons and falls to 2-2 on the season.
  • Resto, Arent, and Rosales each posted an RBI.
  • Six different Falcons registered a hit.
