Softball Concludes Spring Trip with Losses to Worcester St. and Westminster

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The Albertus Magnus College softball team brought an end to its spring trip to the Fastpitch Dreams Spring Classic in Myrtle Beach, S.C. with a pair of non-conference losses to Worcester State University and Westminster (Pa.) College on Friday.

FINAL (G1): Worcester State 9 | Albertus Magnus 3
RECORDS: Albertus Magnus (4-5) | Worcester St. (4-5)
Box Score

KEY HIGHLIGHTS
Worcester State struck first scoring a single run in the top of the first to take the early advantage over the Falcons.

A half-inning later, Albertus answered back scoring three runs behind a two-run RBI single from Skylar Arent (New Fairfield, Conn.) and a fielding error by the Lancers shortstop, bringing the score to 3-1, in favor of the Falcons.

After two scoreless innings, Worcester State struck again tallying five runs in the top of the fourth and two runs in the top of the fifth, increasing its lead to five, 8-3. During that time, solid defensive work from the Lancers kept the Falcons' bats at-bay and forced them to leave only one runner on base over two innings of work.

Worcester State continued to swing the bat and scored an additional run in the top of the seventh to bring the score to 9-3 heading into the final Falcon at-bat. Facing a new pitcher, Albertus managed to start off the bottom of the seventh with back-to-back walks, putting runners on first and second. However, three straight outs ended the seventh-inning rally.

KEY STATS

  • Arent earned her third loss of the season in the circle.
  • Arent also led the Falcons in RBI with two.
  • Ava Gladwin (Guilford, Conn.) posted a team-leading two hits.
