Softball Bows Out of GNAC Championships With Loss to Lasell

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Albertus Magnus softball team concluded its run in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference championships following a loss to the Lasers of Lasell University, 6-5. The Falcons end their season with a 24-20 record. 

Anna Leone (Shelton, Conn.) and Fatima Rosales (East Elmhurst, N.Y.)  spearheaded the Albertus offense with two RBI respectively.

KEY HIGHLIGHTS

  • The Falcons took an early two-run lead in the top of the first when they loaded the bases from hits by Breanna Saldivar (Middletown, Conn.) and Janelle Franklin (Middletown, Conn.) while Peyton Davis (North Haven, Conn.) reached on the left fielder's error. During the following at-bat, Leone singled through the right side to drive in two RBI.
  • After a one-hit inning by the Falcons in the top of the second, the Lasers halved the score, 2-1. With runners on second and third, Abigail Fortin singled to left field allowing one run to score before the Falcons ended the inning with a fly ball in left field cleaned up by Angelina Ramada (North Branford, Conn.).
  • After a quiet third inning, Ivy Geloso (Beacon Falls, Conn.) led off the top of the fourth inning with an infield single. Erin Molkenthin (East Haddam, Conn.) reached on a fielding error by the pitcher, while Geloso advanced to third. Molkenthin found the opportunity to steal second, putting the runners in scoring position. At the following at-bat, Rosales smacked a ball into right field for a double, driving in two runs to put the Falcons up 4-1.
  • Albertus closed out the scoring in the fourth inning when Rosales stole home on throwing error by the Lasell catcher for a 5-1 lead
  • The Lasers trimmed their deficit to 5-4 in the bottom of the fifth as Katie Hopkins singled to right center, allowing Allie Kirck to score. Shortly after, Lasell put runners on first and second when Eryn Sheeley singled to right field for one RBI. With two outs and runners on second and third, Grace Stephenson flew out to send in the Lasers' fourth run.
  • The Lasell offense continued to hit in the bottom of the sixth, taking a one-run lead over the Falcons. Madison Still singled to center field for two RBI, giving the Lasers their first lead of the game at 6-5.
  • The Falcons attempted to even the score in the top of the seventh with hits from Saldivar and Franklin, but the Albertus softball team was unable to drive in the game-tying run before the third out.

  • Four additional Falcons tallied a hit: Leone, Geloso, Rosales and Kerrs.
  • Rosales and Leone each recorded two RBI to lead the Falcons.
