Softball Opens 2024 Campaign in the Sunshine State

NEW HAVEN, Conn. — Under new head coach Lou Bunosso, the Albertus Magnus College softball team kicks off opening day with a 10-game road trip to the Sunshine State, ignited by back-to-back games against Wilmington College (Ohio) and Saint Mary's College (Ind.) in Leesburg, Fla. Last season, the Falcons finished in second place in the south division with a 24-20 overall record and 9-3 in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference. The Falcons were picked to finish in second place in the South Division in the GNAC preseason poll.

Albertus returns from spring break with three straight doubleheaders at home on Shea Softball Field by hosting the University of Hartford (March 20), Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts (March 23) and Manhattanville College (March 27). The team continues with a non-conference matchup on the road at Rhode Island College on April 2 followed by the Falcons' first conference contest at Dean College on April 6. During the 2023 season, Albertus dominated the Bulldogs at home to sweep the doubleheader and lead the all-time matchup, 8-0.

The Falcons host their first league opponent with two games starting at noon against the visiting Regis College Pride on April 7, followed by a non-conference contest at nearby Wesleyan University (Conn.) and GNAC foe New England College on April 10 and 13, respectively. Johnson & Wales (R.I.) returns to Shea Field for a regular season matchup on April 14, after splitting the doubleheader last season and falling to the Falcons, 8-4, in the GNAC Quarterfinals. Westfield State University welcomes Albertus on April 17 for a doubleheader with a 3:30 p.m. first pitch, before returning to The Nest to host Mitchell College on April 20 in a noon doubleheader.

Albertus travels to Saint Joseph's (Me.), Saint Joseph's (Conn.) and Lasell University on April 21, 24, and 27, before returning home to close out the season against Elms College on April 28. Lasell split the regular season doubleheader against the Falcons, before falling to Albertus, 4-3, in the league quarterfinals. The Lasers outlasted the Falcons in the GNAC South Division Championships, 6-5.
