Arent's First Career Hitless Outing Caps Off Back-To-Back Triumphs Against Skidmore and Rutgers-Newark

KISSIMMEE, Fla. — Skylar Arent's (Ridgefield, Conn.) first career hitless outing highlighted a pair of explosive victories against Skidmore College, 11-2, and Rutgers-Newark, 14-0, as the Albertus Magnus College softball team closed out its Spring Break trip at The Spring Games on Saturday.

Arent put in three innings of work against Rutgers-Newark to keep the Scarlett Raiders off the board with no hits or runs and only allowed one walk.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Paige Scheid (Cedar Grove, N.J.) reached first off a throwing error by third base to advance to second on the error to lead off the opening inning and scored the first run of the night after Erin Molkenthin (East Haddam, Conn.) reached first base off a dropped fly ball by the left fielder before also advancing on the error.
  • Molkenthin brought home two more Falcons in the third off a double to center field as Hailey Laforte (Branford, Conn.) and Arent scored to put Albertus up, 3-0.
  • Albertus Magnus scored on four straight at-bats with only one out on the board as Julianna Petruzziell (West Haven, Conn.) brought home Molkenthin, Gianna Carrano (West Haven, Conn.) sent Colleen Edwards (Clinton, Conn.) to the plate, Amelia Boulli (Torrington, Conn.) notched a run off a wild pitch and capped off by Petruzziell returning home after Scheid reached on an error by the shortstop.
  • The Falcons tallied a trio of runs in the top of the fourth frame ignited by Lucy Rodriguez (New Britain, Conn.), who reached on an error by the shortstop to allow Molkenthin to score her second run of the game.
  • Skidmore found its way onto the board in the bottom of the fourth with two runs off a sacrifice fly and a double to right field.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Laforte's two RBI home run to right field ignited a strong opening first inning for the Falcons as Amanda Savinelli (New Haven, Conn.) also crossed the plate after drawing a walk in the previous at bat.
  • Albertus remained hot with five consecutive runs in the first frame and only a single out on the board.
  • With the bases loaded, Isabelle Smith (Meriden, Conn.) singled up the middle to drive Edwards home until Savinelli's single through the right side sent home two more Falcons home and put Albertus up, 8-0, followed by a pitching change by Rutgers-Newark.
  • In the following frame, Albertus tacked on four more runs including a two-RBI single to center field by Laforta.
  • Megan Cross (North Haven, Conn.) notched the final tally for the Falcons in the fourth inning to allow Edwards to score.
