NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Albertus Magnus College softball team lost a close 3-2 game to the Universify of Hartford Hawks on Wednesday in the first game of a doubleheader in its home opener. The second game was suspended in the bottom of the fourth.
Julianna Petruziello (West Haven, Conn.) drove in both runs for the Falcons.
Starting pitcher Annabelle Jabs (East Hartford, Conn.) didn't allow a hit for the first six innings of the game.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- After a scoreless first inning for both teams, the Falcons got on the board in the bottom of the second inning as Erin Molkenthin (East Haddam, Conn.) led off the inning with a double to centerfield. After Isabelle Smith (Meriden, Conn.) reached on an error and stole second, Petruziello drove in both runners with a single to right field.
- On the mound, Jabs cruised through the first six innings, allowing just one baserunner during that time. In the top of the seventh, however, the Hawks first three batters reached base, including back-to-back RBI doubles from Shailynn Williams and Mara Sczecienski to tie the game. The Hawks took the lead on an RBI single from Gia Miccio.
- Amelia Boulli (Torrington, Conn.) drew a two-out walk in the bottom of the seventh, but the Falcons were unable to score in the inning.
