Falcons Soar to 72-31 Win Over Wheelock in Women's Basketball

The Albertus Magnus women's basketball team earned a dominating 72-31 win over Wheelock on Thursday night in non-conference action. Bianca Brown (West Haven, Conn.) scored 12 points as she shot 6-of-8 from the floor, while grabbing a team-best seven rebounds.

Lindsay Karle (Wallingford, Conn.) tallied a game-high 14 points, while Lindsey Raynor (Branford, Conn.) recorded eight points and seven rebounds for the Falcons.

With the win, the Falcons improve to 2-0 to begin the 2011-12 season, while the Wildcats (0-1) open the year with the loss.

The Falcons opened up the contest shooting 54.8% from the floor in the first half as they used two key runs to extend their lead to as much as 26 points. Albertus went on a 10-0 run in a span of three minutes to push their advantage to 17 points with six minutes remaining in the half.

The Falcons finished out the frame with a 14-3 run as they went into the break with a 24-point lead.

During the final 4:07 of the first half, the Wildcats turned the ball over six times and shot 0-of-4 from the field. They ended the contest with 36 turnovers, while the Falcons registered 35 points off those miscues.

Sarah Boudreau (Pascaog, R.I.) tallied 10 points for the Falcons as she shot 4-of-8 from the free throw line and 3-of-5 from the field.

The Falcons held Wheelock to just 12 points in the second half, as the Wildcats shot 6-of-22 from the floor. On the night, Albertus shot 48.3%, while scoring 46 of its points in the paint.

Taylor Jagoe (Milford, Conn.) recorded six steals, while Nicole Acerra (East Haven, Conn.) registered five in the Falcons' second-straight win.

Albertus will head to Pine Manor this weekend for the Boston Invitational Tournament. The Falcons will face Lesley at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 19 and will play in a second game on Sunday, Nov. 20. Sunday's time and opponent is to be determined.
