Falcons Earn Dominating 65-50 Win over Saint Joseph (CT)

The Albertus Magnus women's basketball team opened tonight's contest with a 20-6 run en route to a 65-50 victory over Saint Joseph College (Conn.) on Tuesday night in Great Northeast Athletic Conference action.

Lianna Carrero (Hamden, Conn.) and Lindsay Karle (Wallingford, Conn.) both scored 18 points to lead the Falcons, while Karle hit 5-of-8 from the floor, including a 3-for-3 effort from behind the arc.

Tonight's win improves the Falcons record to 8-3 on the year and 1-1 in GNAC play as the loss gives Saint Joseph College an overall record of 8-3 and a 1-1 showing in the conference standings.

Senior Sarah Boudreau (Pascoag, R.I.) had a solid game for the Falcons as she recorded 13 points on 6-of-10 shooting while she pulled down eight rebounds as well.

The Falcons came out strong in the first half as they opened the game with a 12-4 run before extending their lead to 20-6 seven minutes into the game. Albertus led by as much as 18 in the first frame, taking a 29-11 lead at the 8:30 mark on a Carrero fast-break layup.

Carrero scored 10 of her 18 points in the first half as the Falcons shot 45.2-percent from the floor. Albertus finished the night shooting 41.4-percent on 24-of-58 shooting.

Karle tallied 13 of her 18 points in the opening frame as she was 3-of-3 from the floor and 2-of-2 from behind the arc.

The Falcons held Saint Joseph to a 28.6-percent shooting in the contest as the Blue Jays hit 18-of-63 from the field. The Falcons also out-rebounded Saint Joseph 49-36 on the night.

Senior Bianca Brown (West Haven, Conn.) added eight points, while Nicole Acerra (East Haven, Conn.) and Annie Raucci (Milford, Conn.) both contributed with four points apiece.

Albertus will head to Brooklyn College on Wednesday for their second game in two days. The Falcons and Bulldogs will square off beginning at 5:30 p.m.
