Women's Basketball Falls to JWU 88-77 in OT

The Albertus Magnus women's basketball team dropped an 88-77 overtime decision to Johnson & Wales (R.I.) in Great Northeast Athletic Conference action on Monday afternoon.

The Wildcats battled back from a four-point deficit to tie the game at 72 with 47.3 seconds left in regulation to force the game into overtime. During the five-minute overtime period, the Wildcats outscored the Falcons 16-5 and used a 14-0 run to take the eventual 11-point victory.

With the Great Northeast Athletic Conference loss, the Falcons fall to 8-6 on the year and 1-3 in the league standings. JWU improves to 7-9 on the year and 3-1 in the GNAC.

Senior Bianca Brown (West Haven, Conn.), who entered today's game after a career-high 36-point effort on Saturday, shot 7-of-18 from the floor and finished with 20 points, her fourth game of the season with 20 or more points.

Lindsay Karle (Wallingford, Conn.) led the Falcons on the afternoon with 25 points as she was 5-of-7 from behind the arc.

The Falcons opened today's contest with a 9-2 run in the first two minutes of play but the Wildcats managed to work their way back to take their first lead of the game at the 12:57 mark. The Falcons took back control of the game at the 9:07 mark as they held an eight-point advantage. In the first half, there were seven lead changes as Johnson & Wales' largest lead of the frame came with one minute on the clock. The Wildcats went into the locker room with a two-point lead at 39-37.

Karle scored 14 points in the first half as she hit 3-of-5 from behind the arc. Brown added 12 first-half points as she shot 5-of-10 from the floor. Albertus shot 43.3-percent from the field in the first frame, while JWU shot 48.4-percent and hit just two of its eight attempts from three-point land.

The lead changed seven times in the second half as the Falcons outscored the Wildcats 35-33 and hit 11-of-26 attempts from the floor. The Falcons went ahead 72-68 with less than two minutes on the clock but turnovers gave JWU the opportunity to tie the game at 72 with 47 seconds left in regulation.

The game was decided in overtime as Albertus held a 77-74 advantage with 2:50 left in the overtime period after an Annie Raucci (Milford, Conn.) layup. The Wildcats then took control of the final minutes as they outscored the Falcons 14-0 to take the 88-77 victory.

Raucci finished the day with 12 points and 10 rebounds for her second double-double of the season. Lianna Carrero (Hamden, Conn.) played just 28 minutes due to early foul trouble but scored eight points.

The Falcons will head to Norwich University on Wednesday night to take on the Cadets in GNAC play. Game time is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. in Northfield, Vt.
