Women's Basketball Drops a 73-66 Decision to Mount Ida

The Albertus Magnus women's basketball team dropped a 73-66 decision to Great Northeast Athletic Conference opponent Mount Ida on Tuesday night in New Haven.

Jeileen Rivera led the Mustangs with a game-high 22 points as Mount Ida hit seven of its eight free-throw attempts in the final minute to clinch the league victory. After tying the score at 58 with 3:52 left in the contest, the Mustangs put together a 15-6 run to finish out the game.

On the night, the Mustangs hit 18-of-19 from the charity stripe for a 94.7-percentage as they even their record to 12-12 on the year and move to 6-4 in GNAC play. The loss moves the Falcons to 12-10 on the year and 5-6 in the league standings.

Lindsay Karle (Wallingford, Conn.) led Albertus on the night as she scored 17 points in 34 minutes of work. Bianca Brown (West Haven, Conn.) and Lianna Carrero (Hamden, Conn.) added 15 and 14 points, respectively. The Falcons shot 40.0-percent from the floor on the night but struggled from behind the arc as they hit just one of their 14 attempts.

In the opening half of play, the score was tied four times but Mount Ida held the edge, never giving up the lead. The Mustangs led by as much as seven in the first half with four minutes to go before intermission. They led at the break 30-28 as the Falcons shot 37.5-percent from the floor and were held 0-of-6 from behind the arc. Mount Ida was 4-of-8 from three-point land as Rivera shot 6-of-9 from the field, including a 3-of-4 clip on three-point attempts.

Mount Ida finished the night with 19 second-chance points and scored 21 points off 19 Albertus turnovers. The Falcons out-rebounded the Mustangs 40-37 in a game that featured 10 lead changes, all coming in the second half.

Albertus will head to Lasell on Saturday to take on the Lasers in a GNAC match-up. The Lasers are 3-18 on the year and 3-8 in league play and will host the Falcons in a 1:00 p.m. match-up.
