The Albertus Magnus women's basketball team cruised to a 71-48 victory over Mount Ida College on Thursday night to pick up its first Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) win of the season.

The victory improves the Falcons' overall record to 11-3 and their GNAC mark to 1-2.

Junior Lianna Carrero (Hamden, Conn.) led the Falcons with 14 points in 20 minutes of work, while Kendrea Walker (New Haven, Conn.) came off the bench to register seven rebounds and 12 points on 5-of-10 shooting.

Freshman Chelsea Sherrod (Bridgeport, Conn.) also played a key role for the Falcons off the bench as she shot 6-of-6 from the floor and 1-of-1 from the charity stripe for 13 points. She added eight rebounds to her line as well.

The Falcons opened tonight's contest with a 7-0 run before jumping out to a 15-5 lead. Albertus held the lead throughout the entire contest and took its largest advantage of the night at 25 points as the Falcons went ahead 63-38 with 5:18 left in regulation.

Albertus led 38-19 at the break as the Falcons scored 14 points on 11 Mount Ida (6-9, 0-3 GNAC) turnovers. The Falcons shot 43.8% on a 14-of-32 showing from the field in the opening frame. Despite shooting over 40% in the second half, the Falcons missed all eight attempts from behind the arc. On the night, Albertus shot 42.9% from the field and held Mount Ida without a three pointer throughout the entire contest.

Mount Ida's Evebonee Acosta led all scorers with 22 points on 8-of-22 shooting from the field.

The Falcons are now 6-4 all-time against the Mustangs and are 3-3 all-time against Mount Ida since the Mustangs joined in the GNAC in 2007.

Albertus returns to New Haven on Saturday to host Emerson College in a 1:00 p.m. GNAC battle. The Lions are 6-9 overall this season and have a 2-2 record in GNAC play. Since the 1996-97 season, the Falcons are 11-5 all-time against Emerson, including a 6-2 showing on the Falcons' home court.
