Saint Joseph’s Maine Downs Falcons 76-64 in GNAC Action

The Saint Joseph's College of Maine Monks defeated the Albertus Magnus women's basketball team 76-64 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play on Thursday night in the Falcons' final home game of the regular season.

With the loss, the Falcons fall to 18-6 on the year and 6-5 in GNAC play, while the Monks improved to 14-10 overall and 8-3 in league action.

Saint Joseph's College opened tonight's contest with a 7-1 run before the Falcons battled back to take their first lead of the night at 10-9 on a Lianna Carrero (Hamden, Conn.) jumper. The Falcons extended their lead to 14-11 before both teams traded baskets throughout the remainder of the frame.

The Falcons went into the break with a 33-32 lead as they shot 40.6% from the field. Kendrea Walker (New Haven, Conn.) led all players with 11 points and six rebounds at the half. The Monks shot 41.2% from the field in the opening frame as they were held 0-for-6 from behind the arc.

Albertus shot 38.5% from the floor in the second half and were held without a three-pointer in the frame, while the Monks shot a stellar 68.0% from the field in the second half, a 17-of-25 showing.

Lindsay Moore led Saint Joseph's with 24 points in 31 minutes of play, while Abby Young added 16 points off the bench.

Walker led Albertus in the contest with a game-high 23 points as she added 14 rebounds for her sixth double-double of the season and her fourth-straight. Carrero added 14 points as she now has 1,229 career points.

Both teams registered 40 points in the paint, while Saint Joseph's scored 19 points off 17 Albertus turnovers. During tonight's contest, the game was tied 11 times, while the lead changed 12 times.

Nicole Acerra (East Haven, Conn.) added eight points, five assists and four rebounds before fouling out of the contest.

Lindsey Raynor (Branford, Conn.) chipped in with three points and four rebounds in 11 minutes of work.

The Falcons head to Providence, R.I. on Saturday, Feb. 16 to take on the Johnson & Wales (R.I.) Wildcats in a GNAC match-up. That contest is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m.
