Falcons Cruise to an 81-59 Victory over Lasell

Led by freshman Olivia Bolden (South Windsor, Conn.), the Albertus  Magnus women's basketball team cruised to an 81-59 victory over Lasell College on Saturday afternoon in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play.  Bolden tallied a game-high 26 points to go along with 10 rebounds for her third double-double of the season.

The Falcons improve to 6-9 on the year and earn their first conference victory of the season to move to 1-3 in the league standings.  Lasell drops to 5-9 on the year with the loss, while the Lasers' even their record to 1-1 in GNAC action.

The Falcons pushed out to a 20-5 lead in the opening frame to set the pace for the contest.  Albertus shot 57.1% in the first half led by 11 points by Kiarra Epps (Norwalk, Conn.) and 10 points from Bolden.  Lasell shot just 30% in the opening frame, hitting just four of its 18 attempts from behind the arc.

The second half was dominated by the Falcons once again as Albertus shot 46.3% from the floor despite going 0-for-10 from three-point land. Lasell hit 13 field goals in the second half, while five of those field goals were from behind the arc. Rebeka Costa came off the bench and hit three 3-pointers in the second half to add to the Lasell point-tally.

Bolden shot 10-of-17 from the field and 6-of-8 from the charity stripe in 30 minutes of work.  Epps finished with a career-high 19 points on 8-of-15 shooting as she added three assists and seven rebounds. Kelsey Pendagast (Shelton, Conn.) contributed with 12 points and 11 rebounds for her seventh double-double of the season.

The Falcons finished the game shooting 50.7% from the floor as they scored 60 points in the paint compared to the Lasers' 18. The Falcons also tallied 25 second-chance points. Their largest lead of the contest came in the second half when they led by 34 points with 4:40 left on the clock.

Chelsea Sherrod (Bridgeport, Conn.) added 12 rebounds for the Falcons, a game-high, while Albertus out-rebounded the Lasers 54-27 on the afternoon.

Lasell was led by Katie Stopera with 16 points, while Breanna Cashman added 11 points.

Albertus returns to action on Monday, Jan. 19 against the Simmons College Sharks. That contest is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. in New Haven.
