Falcons Win Third Straight; Down Mt. St. Mary 78-52

The Albertus Magnus women's basketball team won its third-straight game with a 78-52 victory over Mt. St. Mary (N.Y.) College on Wednesday night in New Haven, Conn. With the win, the Falcons improved to 8-9 on the year.

Freshman Olivia Bolden (South Windsor, Conn.), who was just recently named the ECAC and GNAC Rookie of the Week, tallied a game-high 20 points, while pulling down seven rebounds. She shot 8-of-13 from the floor to go along with three blocks and two steals.

The Falcons had five players register double figures as Chelsea Sherrod (Bridgeport, Conn.) tallied 11 points and a game-high 14 rebounds.  Kiarra Epps (Norwalk, Conn.) added 10 points, while Alexa Riley (Cromwell, Conn.) and Elli Sola (New Britain, Conn.) tallied 12 and 10 points, respectively, off the bench.

Riley led all scorers at the half with nine points as the Falcons led 42-20 at the break.

The Falcons opened the contest with a quick 14-4 run en route to shooting 44.1% from the floor in the frame. The Falcons also hit six of their total eight 3-point field goals in the opening half.

The Knights shot just 20.6% from the floor in the opening half and finished the night 27.3%.  Albertus finished the contest shooting 40.5% from the field.

Junior Olivia Sutherland (Wallingford, Conn.)  added seven points, seven rebounds and six assists for the Falcons. Kelsey Pendagast (Shelton, Conn.) pulled down 10 boards for Albertus as well.

Jessica Rini tallied 10 points off the bench for the Knights in the loss.

Albertus controlled the tempo of the game, scoring 42 points in the paint, while picking up their largest lead of the night of 30 points midway through the second half.

The Falcons are now 2-5 all-time against the Knights as their last meeting was in 1995. With the loss, the Knights fall to 5-9 on the year.

Albertus will head to Mount Ida College on Saturday for a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) match-up with the Mustangs.  That contest is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
