Amherst, Mass. -  The Albertus Magnus College women's basketball team lost on the road to No. 2 Amherst, 94-38, on Saturday evening in non-conference action at LaFrak Gymnasium.

The Falcons (2-1) saw their two-game winning streak come to an end, while the Jeffs (1-0) took down AMC at home for the second season in a row.

Sophomore guard Deja Ward (Middletown, Conn.) paced the Albertus Magnus attack with 14 points thanks to a 6-of-10 showing at the charity stripe. Ward was the lone Falcon in double figures on the night and she has now scored 14 points in three straight games. The 5-8 speedy guard also added six boards. Classmate Jill Johnson (North Haven, Conn.) had a solid game for the guests, scoring seven points to go along with a game-high four steals and two assists. Senior guard Liz Falcigno (Wallingford, Conn.) also poured in seven points thanks to hitting her lone three-point attempt and knocking down four free throws.

Amherst was led by Preseason All-American Ali Doswell with a game-best 27 points thanks to 7-of-8 shooting from three-point range. Doswell also hit both of her free throws and pulled down seven boards. Madeline Eck was the other Jeff in double digits with 14 points on 6-of-13 shooting. All 11 Amherst players that saw action in the game scored.

Amherst jumped out to an early 14-3 advantage and closed out the first 10 minutes with a 20-point lead (26-6). During the opening quarter, the Jeffs held the Falcons to just eight percent shooting (1-of-12) and hit four three-pointers.

In the second frame, Amherst once against held Albertus Magnus to single digits. The hosts outscored the visitors, 23-7, in the stanza to take a 49-13 edge into the break. During the frame, Amherst took advantage of eight AMC turnover and outrebounded the Falcons, 12-4, to put the game out of reach.

Albertus Magnus came out of the half strong and scored in 16 points in the third quarter. However, the Jeffs would counter with 25 of their own to hold a comfortable lead heading into the final 10 minutes. Amherst put the game out of reach in the fourth en route to their first win of 2016-17.

Albertus Magnus closes out a busy weekend of action at Amherst with a nuetral-site clash against either Babson or Farmingdale State tomorrow afternoon. The Beavers and Rams are squaring off tonight and the loser of the tilt will take on the Falcons on Sunday.
