Women's Basketball Defeats Norwich in GNAC Road Clash

Northfield, Vt. - Senior Olivia Bolden (South Windsor, Conn.) and junior Jill Johnson (North Haven, Conn.) of the Albertus Magnus College women's basketball team scored a team-high 22 points a piece as the Falcons knocked off Norwich University, 65-53, on Saturday afternoon in GNAC play.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Over the first three minutes of play, Norwich controlled the early lead until a three from Johnson gave the visitors its first lead of the day, 6-4, as well as sparked a 6-0 run, doubling the lead, 12-6. Despite cutting the lead to four, 15-11, Norwich would trail by six, 17-11, at the end of the first.
 
The Falcons remained in control and found themselves up 10, 22-12, until the hosts battled back to within three, 24-21, with 3:30 remaining. Albertus Magnus regain its momentum on offense and would lead by six, 29-23, at the half.
 
Similar to the second, Albertus Magnus pushed its lead to 10, 35-25, and a 9-3 run by the Cadets brought the score to within four, 38-34. Norwich continued to chip away at the Falcons' lead and brought the score to within four, 41-38, on a layup from Emily Oliver. Shortly after, a basket from Bolden and two from Johnson gave Albertus Magnus a six-point lead, 46-40, entering the final 10 minutes of play.
 
Norwich was unable to find its rhythm offensively and was unable to stop the Falcons' offense from taking their biggest lead of the day, 64-49, with less than a minute in regulation.

  • Following today's win, the Falcons cut the all-time series record against Norwich to 16-9.

UP NEXT
Albertus Magnus returns to action next Thursday, Dec. 14 as the Falcons host New Rochelle. The non-conference showdown is set for a 3p.m. tip-off in New Haven. Norwich will conclude 2017 with a road contest at Castleton on Dec. 12.
