Caitlyn Scott Named USBWA Division III Women's National Player Of The Week

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Caitlyn Scott (White Plains, N.Y.) of the Albertus Magnus College women's basketball team was named the U.S. Basketball Writers Association's (USBWA) Division III Women's National Player of the Week after her outstanding performance in two games during the week of January 15-21.

During the 2-0 week for the Falcons, Scott averaged 28 points, six rebounds and eight assists on 51.4 percent shooting from the field and 40 percent from three.

In a 67-65 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) win over Johnson and Wales on January 16, Scott poured in 20 points with five rebounds and six assists. She scored nine points in the fourth quarter and seven of the last 10 points for the Falcons in the win.

In a thrilling 84-72 win over Rivier in a GNAC game, Scott tied a season-high with 36 points on 52 percent shooting with 12 rebounds and eight assists. Scott once again took over in the fourth, rallying the Falcons back from a 59-50 deficit early in the final quarter, sparking a 14-0 run that led Albertus to the double-digit win. She scored 18 of the team's 36 points in the fourth.

This season, Scott is fourth in the GNAC in scoring at 20.7 points per game, first in total assists with 74 and fourth in free throw percentage at 83 percent (112-for-135).

Scott - who was also named GNAC Player of the Week for the second time this season - is the third women's basketball player to be named USBWA Division III National Player of the Week. Rah Rah Thompson (Bridgeport, Conn.) earned the honor during the 2018-2019 season and Shyla Osmond (New Haven, Conn.) in 2019-20.

The U.S. Basketball Writers Association was formed in 1956 at the urging of then-NCAA Executive Director Walter Byers. With some 900 members worldwide, it is one of the most influential organizations in college basketball. It has selected an All-America team since the 1956-57 season.

The Falcons return to action on Wednesday on the road against Elms at 5 p.m. in a GNAC matchup.
