The Albertus Magnus College women's lacrosse team defeated Bay Path College 18-4 Thursday afternoon at Celentano Field in New Haven, Conn. to mark their second consecutive victory at home. The Falcons improve to 2-8 on the year while the Wildcats fall to 0-7.
Miranda Jassil (North Branford, Conn.) had a career day for the Falcons recorded a program record 11 points for the Falcons. Jassil scored six goals and recorded five assists.
Ashley Guerrera (Watertown, Conn.) continued her scoring streak as she netted seven of her own. Jassil and Guerrera contributed 13 of the Falcons total 18 goals. Guerrera has now scored 14 goals in her past two games.
Albertus started the game on a 3-0 scoring run. The second goal came with 24:54 left to play in the first half and was scored by Fekianne "Nani" Charles (Bridgeport, Conn.). This was Charles first goal of the season.
Bay Path College showed courage and determination throughout the entire contest. One notable mention was junior midfielder Megan Squadrito who seemed to be all over the field. Squadrito ended the game with two goals on seven shots. She also picked up a team high eight ground balls. Katherine Navarro and Megan Tancredi also found their names in the scorers sheet eaching finding the back of the net once.
To start the second half, the Falcons went on an impressive eight goal scoring run to put the Wildcats in their rear view. Halle Altieri (Guilford, Conn.) added two second half goals to her three goal day.
Also, with 4:29 left in the game, Teresa Bujalski (North Haven, Conn.) recorded her first point in her first career game as she assisted a cutting Altieri who found the back of the cage.
Just before the horn, with 00:26 left in the game, Maria Case (West Haven, Conn.) netted her first goal of her career. Case proves to be a bit of a utility player for the Falcons as she was in the cage in the Falcons' previous game recording 12 saves. Case' goal rounded out the scoring for the game and the final score ended 18-4.
Albertus won the game on the ground as they picked up 43 ground balls opposed to the Wildcats' 27.
Erika Blechert (Durham, Conn.) had an outstanding game blocking nine shots during her game back after injury. Blechert picked up her first victory with today's win.
The Falcons look to extend their winning streak to three in a Great Northeast Conference Matchup at Lasell College this Saturday at 2:30 PM.
