Women's Lacrosse Junior Carla Tapia Named to the GNAC All-Sportsmanship Team

Winthrop, Mass. – Albertus Magnus College junior women's lacrosse player Carla Tapia (Bronx, N.Y.) has been named to the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) All-Sportsmanship Team as announced by the league office Tuesday afternoon.

Tapia, a defender, lands on the sportsmanship squad for the second time in her collegiate career. She started and anchored the Albertus Magnus backline in all 13 games. Tapia had caused seven turnovers and 13 groundballs this spring. She also added four draw controls and scored her first career goal. In the second half of a non-conference setback against Daniel Webster, Tapia broke through the defense and netted a strike. Carla is the daughter of Juana Santana and is majoring in criminal justice.

The Falcons finished the 2016 season with a 1-12 overall record and closed out the year 10th in the GNAC with an 0-9 mark in league play. During the spring, Albertus Magnus rallied past Bay Path for a 12-10 road win in mid-April.

Founded in 1995, the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) is an NCAA Division III association made up of 12 member institutions, 12 associate member institutions, and over 3,000 student-athletes across the New England region. Each year, the GNAC sponsors and administers 17 championships, while balancing academic integrity, athletic opportunities and community involvement.
