Women’s Lacrosse Squad Announces 2017 Team Captains

New Haven, Conn. – Albertus Magnus College head women's lacrosse coach Joe Caruso has announced that senior Carla Tapia (Bronx, N.Y.), junior Nikki Kern (Wallingford, Conn.) and junior Alex Chan (Monroe, N.Y.) will serve as team captains for the 2017 season.

Tapia, who enters her fourth year as a starter on defense this year, started all 13 games on the season for the Falcons last spring. She recorded her first collegiate goal last season against Daniel Webster as well as collected her first career point. Tapia also finished the season with 13 ground balls and seven caused turnovers. She was also recognized by the Great Northeast Athletic Conference by being named to the All-Sportsmanship Team.

Kern, also a member of the Falcons' women's soccer team, joins the squad after missing the 2015-16 season. Prior to last year, she appeared and started in 15 games for the Falcons as well as collected 17 goals and two assists for 19 points. Kern recorded 42 ground balls, caused 15 turnovers and posted 64 draw controls.

Chan played in 11 games for the Falcons last season and finished the year with three goals and one assist. She also recorded 11 ground balls, eight caused turnovers and earned nine draw controls.

The women's lacrosse team opened the 2017 campaign yesterday with a 21-2 win over Newbury College. The teams returns to the field tomorrow, March 23 against Daniel Webster.
