Women's Lacrosse Upended by Lasell

New Haven, Conn. - Despite a combined seven goals from Madison Neilander (Wallingford, Conn.) and Kaitlin D'Agostino (Hamden, Conn.), the Albertus Magnus College women's lacrosse team suffered a 20-10 setback against Lasell College in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) showdown on Saturday afternoon at Celentano Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED

D'Agostino opened regulation with her 23rd goal of the season following a short pass from classmate Kaitlyn Ellsworth (Tolland, Conn.) two minutes in. However, back-to-back goals from Kellie Matthews sparked an 8-0 run that gave the Lasers a seven-goal cushion, 8-1, with 14:52 remaining.

Over the next eight minutes of play, Albertus battled back to within five, 9-4, as a pair of goals from Neilander and a goal from D'Agostino kept the Falcons alive with six minutes left on the clock. Lasell resumed control and headed into halftime up 11-5.

Lasell came out firing on all cylinders opening the second half with a 7-2 run, that was highlighted by three goals from Jordan McComb. Down 18-7, Neilander and Maddy Rowe (Branford, Conn.) cut the deficit to within nine, 18-9, but it wasn't enough as the Lasers took home the road win, 20-10.

KEY PERFORMERS
Albertus:

  • Along with her assist, Katherin Martinez (Norwalk, Conn.) scooped up two ground balls, won five draw controls and caused two turnovers.
  • D'Agostino won eight draw controls and picked up four ground balls to go with her hat trick.
  • Sophomore Morgan Ashby (Branford, Conn.) and Ellsworth posted two assists each on the afternoon.
  • Neilander posted a team-high four goals, two caused turnovers, three draw controls and a ground ball.

Lasell:

  • Jordan McComb led the offensive unit with a six-goal performance as well as recorded three ground balls, five draw controls and three caused turnovers.
  • Kellie Matthews finished with five points thanks to four goals and an assist.
  • Chloe Shugrue and Vanessa Pino also recorded a hat trick in the Lasers' win.

UP NEXT
Albertus closes out the regular season on Wednesday, April 24 with a home GNAC game against Anna Maria College. Game time is set for 6:00PM at Celentano Field.
