Women’s Lacrosse Dealt Loss by Regis, 15-8

WESTON, Mass. - Despite a hat trick from senior Amanda McGeehan (Milford, Conn.), the Albertus Magnus College women's lacrosse team lost on the road to the Pride of Regis (Mass.) College, 15-8, Thursday evening in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Falcons got the first point on the board just five minutes into play when Serena Montague (Englishtown, N.J.) successfully converted a free position shot.
  • Just twelve seconds later, the Pride evened the score following a free position shot by Kylee Marley.
  • Two consecutive goals from Regis'  Marley and Morgan Pero in the sixth minute of the game gave the hosts a two goal advantage over the Falcons, 3-1.
  • With seven minutes remaining in the period, the Falcons found the back of the net again when Alexandra Barnett (Northford, Conn.) found Kaitlyn D'Agostino (Hamden, Conn.) for her third goal of the season.
  • The Pride wrapped up the first period with three consecutive goals by Marley, Conover, and Krysonia Tavares to make the score 6-2.
  • Regis kept its foot on the gas pedal as the Pride kicked off the opening five minutes of the second period with three goals from Pero, Conover and Maddey Strickland, pushing the score to 9-2.
  • At the 5:15 mark, Keegan Riccio (West Haven, Conn.) forced the foul in the circle to set up for a free position attempt, which she put one past the Pride's keeper.
  • Riccio's tally would be the last goal score of the stanza and the teams would head into the halftime break with Regis leading by six, 9-3.
  • The Pride opened the third period with an unassisted goal by Mia Rogers, before McGeehan propelled into action with back-to-back goals for the Falcons to push the score to 10-5.
  • Regis pushed between the pipes one more time in the third period with an unassisted goal by Abbie Doheny.
  • McGeehan recorded her third goal of the game at the 4:46 minute mark to finish the scoring barrage of the third period.
  • The Pride held the upper hand heading into the final period with a tally of 11-6.
  • Regis opened the fourth period with two goals in the opening three minutes.
  • Riccio's defensive efforts gave her the setup needed to assist Barrett for her second goal of the game at the 11:12 minute mark.
  • Regis posted a duo of goals from Conover and Doheny to give the Pride an undoubted edge in the final minutes of the game.
  • The Falcons posted the last tally when Riccio found D'Agostino for her second goal of the game at the 3:00 minute mark, ending with a final score of 15-8.

NOTEWORTHY

  • Today's game was the fourth meeting between the two programs.  
  • McGeehan recorded her first hat trick of the season and her second of her career, with the previous from April 22, 2022 against Mitchell.
  • The Pride outshot the Falcons, 37-25. 
  • In between the pipes, Falcon keeper Kelly Musante (Wallingford, Conn.) faced 28 shots and made 13 saves.
  • Barrett led the Falcons in won draw controls with four. 
  • McGeehan also led the Falcons in caused turnovers with four, while Lillian Woods (Wheelock, Vt.) caused two.

 

UP NEXT

The women's lacrosse team returns to action on Saturday, March 18 with a road conference tilt against Colby-Sawyer College. Game time is set for 1PM.
