Women’s Lacrosse Falls to Colby-Sawyer, 18-5

MANCHESTER, N.H. - The Albertus Magnus College women's lacrosse team fell to the Chargers of Colby-Sawyer College by a final score of 18-5 on Saturday evening in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action.

Sophomore Alexandra Barrett (Northford, Conn.) recorded a season and team-high two goals, while seniors Amanda McGeehan (Milford, Conn.) and Keegan Riccio (West Haven, Conn.) netted a goal apiece. Senior Mariah Mandulak (Shelton, Conn.) also recorded a great game for the blue-and-white registering a season-high two assists.

KEY HIGHLIGHTS

  • The Falcons struck first as Barrett found the back of the net for her fifth goal of the season with 11:36 on the clock. Following a turnover by the Chargers, McGeehan scooped up the ground ball and found an open Mandulak, who then passed it to Barrett.
  • Just one minute later, Colby-Sawyer evened the score at 1-1 following a free position shot by Sophia Kuhlthau.
  • At the 8:34 minute mark, the Chargers took their first lead of the game, 2-1, against the Falcons when Olivia Romo scored off a pass by Ella Lyford.
  • Colby-Sawyer headed into the final 15 minutes of the first half with a three-goal lead, 4-1, as Hannah Marquis and Sydney Stevens scored a pair of late goals at 2:38 and with 59 seconds left on the clock.
  • The Chargers controlled most of the second quarter as the hosts scored seven straight goals until a goal from McGeehan at 2:07 broke up the run and brought the score to 11-2.
  • Colby-Sawyer's final goal of the quarter was scored by Stevens in the final minute to give the hosts a 10-goal advantage, 12-2, at the half.
  • The Chargers opened the third period with two goals scored in the opening five minutes from Romo and Hanson.
  • Riccio tallied the fourth goal for the Falcons when she recovered a ground ball and sent it between the pipes at the 5:42 minute mark.
  • Just two minutes later, Barrett recorded her second goal of the game off a pass by Mandulak to close out the period, 14-4.
  • Colby-Sawyer kept their foot on the gas when the team combined for a trio of goals by Olivia Witter, Hanson, and Anika Jenkins.
  • With 47 seconds left on the clock, Albertus capitalized on an error by the Chargers' keeper as she tried to clear the ball, but unfortunately put it in her own team's net, giving the Falcons the fifth tally.
  • The Chargers tallied a final goal in the last 15 seconds of the game from Kuhlthau to wrap up the game with a final score of 18-5.
