Women’s Lacrosse Drops to Norwich, 12-10

NEW HAVEN, Conn. -  The Albertus Magnus College women's lacrosse team came up short at home, 12-10, to the visiting Cadets of Norwich University Saturday afternoon in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play. 

Alexandra Barrett and Amanda McGeehan recorded a hat trick for the Falcons as Barrett netted three goals, while McGeehan tallied a team-high four goals. Barrett also finished with two assists.

KEY HIGHLIGHTS

  • Behind four different scorers, Norwich jumped out to a commanding three-goal lead, 4-1, after the first 15 minutes of play.
  • Albertus' first goal of the game was scored just 30 seconds in behind an unassisted goal from Barrett.
  • From there, Norwich closed out the stanza with four unanswered goals to take the early lead over the blue-and-white.
  • The Falcons responded in the second quarter as a pair of goals from McGeehan and goals from D'Agostino and Barrett cut the deficit to two, 7-5, heading into the halftime break.
  • McGeehan kicked off the third quarter for the Falcons as the senior attack netted her third goal of the game at the 12:05 mark to earn her second hat trick of the season and bring the hosts to within one, 7-6.
  • Two minutes later, Norwich increased its lead to two, 8-6, but back-to-back goals from Riccio evened the game for a second time, 8-8.
  • For the remaining 8:11, Albertus and Norwich were held to one goal each and headed into the final 15 minutes of play tied at 9-9.
  • Albertus' first lead of the game came at the 12:02 mark of the fourth quarter when Barrett netted her third goal of the game to become the second player to record a hat trick and put the Falcons ahead, 10-9.
  • Less than two minutes later, Norwich's Athena Mack evened the game, once again, 10-10, scoring her third of the game.

NOTEWORTHY

  • Norwich is now 8-0 against the Falcons.

  • Albertus outshot Norwich, 34-30, and had the edge in draw controls, 19-6.

  • Lillian Woods (New London, N.H.) led the defensive unit with four caused turnovers. 

  • Barrett led the Falcons in shots with 10 total, while McGeehan registered eight.

  • D'Agostino won eight of the Falcons' 19 draw controls.
