Women's Lacrosse Suffers GNAC Road Loss to Elms

CHICOPEE, Mass. - Despite a season-high five goals from senior Keegan Riccio (West Haven, Conn.), the Albertus Magnus College women's lacrosse team fell on the road in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play to the Blazers of Elms College Wednesday evening at Leary Field.

KEY HIGHLIGHTS

  • Elms opened the conference showdown with a four-goal advantage, 5-1, over the first 15 minutes of play. 
  • Albertus' first tally of the game came at the 5:57 mark as Alexandra Barrett (Northford, Conn.) found the back of the net for her 13th goal of the season.
  • The first seven minutes of the second quarter were controlled by the Blazers, who scored five straight goals to push their lead to nine, 10-1, until three goals from Riccio and a goal from Samantha Helwig (Northford, Conn.) brought the Falcons to within five, 10-5, with 4:10 left on the clock.
  • Over a four-minute span, Riccio completed her first hat trick of the season, while Helwig netted her first collegiate goal at the 7:32 mark.
  • Elms closed out the remaining 2:40 with four unanswered goals to push its lead back up to nine, 14-5, heading into the halftime break. 
  • The Blazers carried their scoring run into the third quarter as the hosts tallied six goals over 11 minutes of play to extend the score to 20-5.
  • Albertus broke up the scoring run at the 2:02 mark when Mariah Mandulak (Shelton, Conn.) scored her second goal of the season to bring the score to 20-6 heading into the final 15 minutes of play.
  • Riccio started off the fourth quarter by scoring back-to-back goals less than seven seconds apart to trim the deficit to 12, 20-8.
  • However, the Elms proved to be the dominant team sealing the conference win by a final score of 24-8 after closing out regulation with four straight goals.

  • Albertus held the 19-16 advantage in draw controls.
  • The Falcons posted a season-high in free-position goals with four and draw controls with 19. 
  • Riccio posted a season-high five goals, pushing her season total to 14.
  • Barrett finished with a team-high two caused turnovers.
  • Along with Barrett, Amanda McGeehan (Milford, Conn.) tallied four draw controls.
  • Kaitlin D'Agostino (Hamden, Conn.) collected a season-high nine won draw controls.
