Women's Lacrosse Falls at Home to Simmons

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Albertus Magnus College women's lacrosse team lost at home by a final score of 19-1 to the Sharks of Simmons University Saturday afternoon at Celentano Field.

KEY HIGHLIGHTS

  • The first 15 minutes of regulation were controlled by the Sharks as the visitors outshot the Falcons 15-2 and held a commanding 11-0 lead heading into the second quarter.
  • Despite outshooting the Sharks, 4-3, in the second quarter, Albertus trailed at the halftime break 13-0. 
  • Simmons had two players - Abby Stoller and Frida Turriza - complete a hat trick in the first half.
  • It was a defensive battle in the third quarter, with Simmons only scoring one goal on six shot attempts, including one shot on goal which was saved by Falcon keeper Kelly Musante (Wallingford, Conn.).
  • The Sharks started the final quarter by scoring a pair of back-to-back goals from Stroller and Kat Wood until an unassisted goal from Keegan Riccio (West Haven, Conn.) broke up the run and helped the Falcons avoid the shutout, 16-1.
  • From there, Simmons closed out the final seven minutes of play with three unanswered goals to make the final score 19-1.

NOTEWORTHY

  • Amanda McGeehan (Milford, Conn.) and Laila Webb (Montclair, N.J.) finished with a team-high four ground balls.
  • McGeehan also led the defensive unit with three caused turnovers.
  • Along with her lone goal, Riccio posted a team-best five draw controls.
  • Kaitlin D'Agostino (Hamden, Conn.) also was an offensive threat tallying four draw controls. 

UP NEXT
The Falcons return to the field on Tuesday, April 11th, with a road non-conference contest against the Valiants of Manhattanville College. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
