Women's Lacrosse Drops GNAC Contest to JWU

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Albertus Magnus College women's lacrosse team lost by a final score of 22-5 in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) road clash with the Wildcats of Johnson & Wales University on Wednesday afternoon at the Scotts-Miracle Gro Athletic Complex.

KEY HIGHLIGHTS

  • Trailing 9-0, Albertus finally broke through offensively, scoring back-to-back goals at the 2:23 mark and 1:08 mark, respectively, to trim the deficit to seven, 9-2.
  • Alexandra Barrett (Northford, Conn.) netted the Faclons' first goal of the afternoon, while Keegan Riccio (West Haven, Conn.) converted on a free position shot for the second goal.
  • The Wildcats closed out the opening quarter with a pair of goals from Marisa DiBeneditto and Taina Gamory to take an 11-2 lead over the Falcons heading into the next 15 minutes of play. 
  • JWU outscored the Falcons 5-1 in the second quarter to increase its lead to 13, 16-3.
  • Barrett tallied Albertus' lone goal of the second quarter on a man-up, free-position shot with 40 seconds left on the clock.
  • Albertus was shutout in the third quarter by the Wildcats by a 5-0 margin, but a pair of fourth-quarter goals from Barrett and Riccio brought the score to 21-5 with 10:35 left in regulation.
  • The final tally of the game came with 1:54 left on the clock as JWU's Mila Kuilan found the back of the net, making the final score 22-5.

NOTEWORTHY

  • Albertus and JWU tallied two free position shots each.
  • Kaitlin D'Agostino (Hamden, Conn.) led the defensive unit with three caused turnovers to go with two draw controls and three ground balls.
  • Riccio posted a team-high three draw controls. 
  • Barrett recorded her second hat trick of the season. 
  • Riccio registered her sixth game scoring two goals or more.
