Women's Lacrosse Upended by Dean on the Road

FRANKLIN, Mass. - The Albertus Magnus College women's lacrosse team fell on the road in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action to the Bulldogs of Dean College Saturday afternoon by a final score of 23-7.

Albertus was led offensively by Amanda McGeehan (Milford, Conn.), Alexandra Barrett (Northford, Conn.), and Keegan Riccio (West Haven, Conn.), as the trio tallied for a combined six-goal effort behind two goals apiece. 

Kaitlin D'Agostino (Hamden, Conn.) also added to the scoring threat with a solo goal.

KEY HIGHLIGHTS

  • The Bulldogs came out of the gate, winning the draw and scoring the first four goals of the game until a good tally from Barrett at the 12:46 mark broke up the run and the scoreless drought for the Falcons.
  • Dean then capitalized on a scoring opportunity when Haley Gaunt converted on a free position shot to bring the Bulldogs' advantage to four, 5-1.
  • Shortly after, Riccio scored the Falcons' second goal of the day at the 10:58 mark on an assist by Barrett.
  • A free position shot by Dean's Gaunt push the hosts' lead back up to four, 6-2, but the Falcons jumped into action when D'Agostino scored off an assist from McGeehan at the 4:13 mark.
  • Back-to-back goals from Gaunt two minutes apart made it a five-goal game, 8-3, until McGeehan put the ball between the pipes off an assist by Barrett for an 8-4 scoreline heading into the second quarter.
  • The Bulldogs commanded the next 15 minutes of play with eight unanswered goals to end the half with a 16-4 lead.
  • Dean opened up the third quarter with a goal by Maire Brown to take a 13-goal advantage, 17-4.
  • In a man-up situation, Albertus used the opportunity to score when McGeehan found the back of the net for her second of the day.
  • After a duo of goals from the Bulldogs' offense, Riccio scored her second goal of the game to bring the score to 19-6 at the end of the third quarter.
  • Barrett kicked off the fourth quarter notching her second goal, but the Falcons' defensive unit could not hold off the Bulldogs as the hosts closed out regulation with four unanswered goals to make the final score 23-7.

NOTEWORTHY

  • Along with her goal, D'Agostino finished with a team-high three caused turnovers, two ground balls, and three draw controls.
  • Annamarie DeLucia (North Haven, Conn.) and Samantha Helwig (Northford, Conn.) caused two turnovers apiece.
  • Barrett won four of the Falcons' 13 draw controls. 
  • Barrett tied her season-high in points behind two goals and three assists.
  • Riccio recorded her third straight game with two goals.

UP NEXT
The Falcons return to action on Monday, April 17th, with a non-conference showdown against the Mariners of Mitchell College. Game time is set for 3:30 p.m.
