Balanced Attack Leads Women's Lacrosse Past Anna Maria for Second Straight Win

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Amanda McGeehan (Milford, Conn.) and Kaitlin D'Agostino (Hamden, Conn.) tallied a team-high four goals as the Albertus Magnus College women's lacrosse team won its second straight game, defeating the AMCATS of Anna Maria College by a final score of 16-12 in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) home bout Thursday afternoon at Celentano Field.

Along with her four goals, McGeehan finished with two assists, while D'Agostino earned an assist, seven ground balls, 11 draw controls and two caused turnovers. 

Alexandra Barrett (Northford, Conn.) and Keegan Riccio (West Haven, Conn.) also had a great game for the Falcons as the duo tallied a combined six goals behind three goals apiece. Mariah Mandulak (Shelton, Conn.) and Laila Webb (Montclair, N.J.) joined the scoring club netting one goal each. 

Kelly Musante (Wallingford, Conn.) picked up the win in goal for the Falcons after recording 19 saves.

KEY HIGHLIGHTS

  • Anna Maria controlled the opening quarter as the visitors outshot the Falcons by a 5-4 margin behind five different scorers.
  • Albertus' first goal of the game came at the 13:30 mark when Webb converted on a free position shot after being fouled in the circle.
  • Over a minute and half span, Albertus went on to score three straight goals, including a pair of man-up goals from McGeehan and Barrett, and one goal from Riccio.
  • The Falcons went on a tear in the second quarter scoring seven goals, while holding Anna Maria to just two for the four-goal lead, 11-7, at the half.
  • The trio of Riccio, McGeehan, and D'Agostino scored a combined six goals for the blue-and-white, while Barrett rounded out the scoring with an unassisted goal at 13:45.
  • It was a defensive battle in the third quarter as both teams were held to just one goal each with the hosts remaining on top 12-8.
  • In the third, McGeehan scored her final goal of the game at the 2:01 mark on an assist from Barrett.
  • Anna Maria opened the final 15 minutes of play with a goal from Riley Cote to cut the deficit to three, 12-9, but back-to-back goals from Barrett and D'Agostino extended the lead to five, 14-9.
  • The AMCATS would go on to score another two goals at the 10:46 and 8:35 mark to bring the deficit back down to three, 14-11.
  • The Falcons closed out regulation with a 2-1 scoring run to secure the GNAC home victory over the AMCATS, 16-12.

The Falcons return to the field on Saturday, April 22nd, for a home GNAC contest against the Raiders of Rivier College for Senior Day. Game time is set for 3:30 p.m. with senior celebrations being held prior to the first draw.
