The Albertus Magnus women's soccer team defeated MCLA 1-0 at Celentano Field in New Haven, Conn. on Saturday afternoon.

The Falcons (3-1) opened up the game with three quick shots on the MCLA goalkeeper, Danielle Heinsohn. The junior goalkeeper turned aside the Falcons for the most of the second half.

Despite the play of Heinsohn, the Falcons' striker Amanda Roke (Cheshire, Conn.) capitalized on a penalty kick in the 25th minute. The striker slotted the penalty to the left of the diving goalkeeper to record her fourth goal of the season. The penalty was set up by a great run from sophomore Acacia Nelson (Bridgeport, Conn.), breaking through the box and beating the defender, which resulted in the foul.

Senior midfielder from MCLA Jen Ferrari tried to respond with five shots of her own, including two on target.

At the half, both teams registered seven shots as well as two corner kick opportunities.

In the second half, the Falcons almost had their second goal as freshman midfielder Kaitlyn Fedumenti (Stratford, Conn.) sent a driving ground cross across the six-yard box but no one was there to claim the ball.

Roke led all players in shots with six total shots and four shots on goal.

Sophomore goalkeeper Maria Case (West Haven, Conn.) also tallied her second shutout of the season.

Albertus will face New England College on Sunday, Sept. 8 at 12:00 p.m. on the road.
