The Albertus Magnus women's soccer team dropped a heartbreaking loss to visiting Eastern Connecticut State University 2-1 in overtime Sunday afternoon.

Eastern Connecticut would get on the board in the 10th minute of play when freshman forward Emily Becher (Brooklyn, Conn.) found the back of the net on a through ball delivered from sophomore midfielder Jamie Belden (Middlebury, Conn.).

The score would remain 1-0 entering the half as Eastern Connecticut would hold the 4-1 shot advantage in the first period.

The Falcons would battle until the 82nd minute when senior forward Becky Slivinsky (Plainville, Conn.) buried a poorly cleared ball from 30 yards away over the keeper's head to tie the game 1-1.

The remaining eight minutes in the second half would not disappoint with spectatular goal keeper saves from each team. 

Eastern Connecticut freshman forward Danielle Wendland (Hamden, Conn.) saw her point blank shot smothered by junior Falcon goal keeper Maria Case (West Haven, Conn.) in the 83rd minute.

Junior forward Acacia Nelson (Bridgeport, Conn.) then saw her point blank shot saved by a diving Warriors freshman goal keeper Katie Dadio (Hamden, Conn.) in the 87th minute of play.  The Falcons would have one last chance in regulation when with just six seconds remaining on the clock Dadio would make another spectactular save on freshman Morgan Gigliotti (Wolcott, Conn.) to force overtime.

The Falcons would out shoot Eastern Connecticut 8-7 in the second half.

Overtime proved to be heartbreaking for Albertus when Becher beat a defender on a breakaway going from low post to far post with her tough angled shot in the 95th minute to give Eastern Connecticut the 2-1 overtime victory.

Albertus drops to 1-3 on the young season while Eastern Connecticut improves to 3-1.  The Falcons return to action on Wednesday at 4:00 p.m. when they host non-conference opponent Bay Path College on Celentano Field.
