Nagy's Strike Leads Women's Soccer Past Nichols

Dudley, Mass. – Senior midfielder Liz Nagy (Meriden, Conn.) scored the game-winning goal midway through the second half to lead the Albertus Magnus College women's soccer team to a 2-1 victory on the road versus Nichols on Saturday afternoon in non-conference action.

Nagy picked an opportune time for her first career tally as the Falcons (1-1) earned their first win of the fall, while the Bison (0-2) dropped their second straight.

In the 72nd minute, Nagy collected a feed a from sophomore Kerrigan Loughman (Trumbull, Conn.) and fired a shot from just outside the 18 that beat Nichols netminder Brooke Downey.

The Falcons outshot the Bison 14-3 in the first half and carried a 1-0 lead into the break after a shot by freshman Erin Daly (Seymour, Conn.) found the back of the net passed a diving Downey in the 37th minute.

In the second frame, the hosts leveled the score at one apiece courtesy of a marker from Taylor Souza in the 62nd minute. Souza corralled a pass from junior Ashley Cibotti and fired a shot past Albertus Magnus sophomore goalkeeper Lexie Fenn (Oakville, Conn.).

For the game, AMC held a 17-10 advantage in shots and took seven corners compared to just three for Nichols.

In net, Fenn turned aside one shot to earn her first win of the season and the second of her young career. On the opposite end, Downey made nine saves in a losing effort for the Bison.

Albertus Magnus College returns to action on Wednesday, September 7, with a home non-conference clash against Elms that is slated to get underway at 4:00 pm. The Falcons are looking to avenge a 2-1 setback on the road versus the Blazers last autumn.
