Newton, Mass. – The Albertus Magnus College women's soccer team raced past host Mount Ida, 3-0, on Wednesday afternoon in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action at Alumni Field.

The Falcons (5-6-1, 3-2-1 GNAC) scored early and often to put an end to their two-game league losing streak, while the Mustangs (3-8, 1-5 GNAC) suffered their third straight conference loss.

Albertus Magnus scored three times in the first 14 minutes of action to put the pressure on the hosts early. The Falcons broke through for their first score of the day in the eighth minute as senior midfielder Danielle Polvan (East Haven, Conn.) potted her team-leading sixth tally of the fall. Polvan corralled a throw-in from junior Alexya Alves (Naugatuck, Conn.) just outside the box, beat the Mustang defender marking her and finished inside the right post for the eventual game-winner.

Just under three minutes later, junior midfielder Angelina Piccirillo (Naugatuck, Conn.) gave the visitors a two-goal edge with her second strike of the season. In the offensive end, the Falcons created a scoring chance that led to Mount Ida playing the ball out of bounds. Then the left-footed Piccirillo stepped up to serve the ball on a corner kick and it found the back of the net on a bounce through traffic.

Albertus Magnus senior midfielder Liz Nagy (Meriden, Conn.) capped the early onslaught for the visitors with her second goal of the campaign. Sophomore forward Kerrigan Loughman (Trumbull, Conn.) played a through ball to Nagy who finished with a nice chip over Mount Ida freshman goalkeeper AnnaMarie Seiler.

Polvan wasn't done on the day, as she continued to build on her program record for career goals. Her seventh marker of 2016 and the 34th of her career came on a great individual effort as she beat the player marking her outside the 18 and chipped the ball past Seiler. The multi-goal was the second of the season for Polvan.

Late in the first half, the visitors added an insurance goal courtesy of a tally from senior Taylor Rotella (Milford, Conn.) to give Albertus Magnus a 5-0 lead at halftime. Rotella's first goal of the season was assisted by classmate Liz Falcigno (Wallingford, Conn.) and Alves.

In the second half, the hosts got on the board in the 48th minute thanks to an unassited marker from Lacey Perry. Late in regulation, the Falcons capped the scoring as junior Amanda Montano (North Haven, Conn.) netted her second of the season off a feed from Loughman.

In net, Albertus Magnus sophomore Lexie Fenn (Oakville, Conn.) made one save during the first half to earn her fourth win of the season. In relief of Fenn, both freshman Cassidy Scofield (Shelton, Conn.) and senior Ryan Clark (Milford, Conn.) saw action for the guests in the second half. On the opposite side, Seiler turned aside eight shots in a losing effort for Mount Ida.

In their three conference wins this fall, the Falcons have outscored the opposition, 12-1. AMC has won every game in which they've scored in this season.

Albertus Magnus returns to action on Saturday, October 8, with a home conference showdown against Rivier that is slated to begin at 1:00 pm. Last autumn, the Falcons netted a 2-0 triumph versus the Raiders in New Hampshire.
