New Haven, Conn. - The Albertus Magnus College women's soccer team raced past Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) rival Rivier, 2-0, on Saturday afternoon at Celentano Field.

The Falcons improved to 6-6-1 (4-2-1 GNAC) while moving up to third-place in the league standings.

Albertus Magnus started pressuring the Raiders early when junior forward Alexya Alves (Naugatuck, Conn.) pushed through the defense and sent a cross to senior midfielder Liz Nagy (Meriden, Conn.) who nearly put the Falcons on the board 6 min into the first half, but the bid clinked off the crossbar.

Not long after hitting the crossbar the Falcons would get on the board as Nagy sent a pass through to Alves who cashed in for her third goal of the season.  Nagy's fifth assist of the fall would move her into a second-place tie in the GNAC for helpers.

The Falcons relentless pressure on the Raiders is what led to their second goal in the first half. When freshman midfielder Erin Daly (Seymour, Conn.) stole the ball and put a shot on net that hit the post, senior midfielder Bridget Judd (Branford, Conn.) was there waiting and buried the rebound into the back of the net for her first goal of the autumn.

Sophomore goalkeeper Lexie Fenn (Oakville, Conn.) was strong in net turning away both shots she faced on the day preserving the shutout victory for the Falcons. It was her third clean sheet of the fall and all three have come against league opponents.

Albertus Magnus returns to action on Monday, October 10th when they travel to in-state conference rival St. Joseph (Conn.) at 1:00 pm.
