Women's Soccer Weekly Preview: Emmanuel (GNAC Tournament First Round)

Last Week: The Albertus Magnus College women's soccer team went a perfect 2-0 last week, shutting out both Suffolk and Norwich at home in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play. With the wins, Albertus Magnus ended the fall with a 7-3-1 mark in league play to secure a home game and the No. 3 seed in the upcoming GNAC Tournament. The Falcons will host sixth-seeded Emmanuel on Sunday. The team enters the postseason with a 9-7-1 overall record. The victory against Suffolk marked the 100th of Head Coach Nick Wajnowski's career.

This Week: Albertus Magnus, the No. 3 seed, will host six-seeded Emmanuel on Sunday in the opening round of the GNAC Tournament. The Falcons are looking to avenge a 2-0 setback at home to the Saints earlier this fall. Albertus Magnus and Emmanuel met last autumn in the first round of the tournament and the Saints won in penalty kicks. AMC is 0-1-1 all-time in postseason play against the Saints. The Falcons are looking to advance out of the first round for the first time since 2014.

Earlier this Fall Against the Saints: Emmanuel bested Albertus Magnus, 2-0, in New Haven behind goals from Kayla Generis and Maggie Carey. For the Falcons, sophomore goalkeeper Lexie Fenn turned aside five shots in a losing effort. Albertus Magnus is winless against the Saints all-time in the GNAC Tournament. Emmanuel has won three straight against the Falcons, shutting out AMC in each contest.

NOTES:
- The program earned its 100th career victory earlier this season against Nichols.  Head Coach Nick Wajnowski currently has 101 career wins with the Falcons. He is the winningest coach in program history and has also racked up 66 GNAC victories. 
- In their nine wins this fall, the Falcons outscored the opposition, 42-4. In their seven losses, the team has not scored. At home, the squad is 5-2 in 2016.
- Albertus Magnus is making its 10th appearance in the GNAC Tournament, having posted a 2-7-2 mark. Two of the past three seasons, the team has seen its season come to an end in penalty kicks after playing to a draw.
- Junior midfielder Angelina Piccirillo had a stellar week, recording a pair of multi-goal games as the Falcons scored two GNAC victories. Piccirillo had the game-winning tallies in shutout wins against both Suffolk and Norwich. She opened the scoring in both contests last week, with each strike coming on a corner kick. Against the Rams, she scored in the ninth minute and capped the scoring with a blast from 30-yards out in the 58th minute. Versus Norwich, she scored a goal in each half and added an assist to give her nine points for the week thanks to racking up four goals and an assist.
- Earlier this fall, senior midfielder Danielle Polvan netted four goals in a non-conference win at home versus Mitchell. Polvan had an impressive first half as she netted three goals. Her fourth tally landed her atop the program's all-time goals list with 32 for her career. She currently has 36 for her career.
- Lexie Fenn has been solid in conference play this season, posting a trio of shutouts. For the year, she has a .756 save percentage, a 1.47 goals-against average, 62 saves and three clean sheets (all in conference play).
