Women's Soccer Uphended by Saint Joseph's (Conn.) in GNAC Action

New Haven, Conn. - The Albertus Magnus College women's soccer team was edged by in-state foe Saint Joseph's (Conn.), 2-1, on Wednesday evening at Celentano Field in GNAC play.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Saint Joseph's (Conn.) got on the board early in the first half when Jessica Spezzano (Watertown, Conn.) knocked home a pass from Morgan Skoly in the 18th minute of play.

Albertus Magnus would answer right back before the half as Amanda Montano (North Haven, Conn.) found the back of the net for her third goal of the season after a deflection off a Blue Jay defender.

The Blue Jays would get the eventual game-winner in the 78th minute when Alyssa Fecko placed the ball over the Falcon keeper to secure the conference win.

Junior keeper Lexie Fenn (Oakville, Conn.) made a total of seven saves between the pipes, while Megan Ricci stopped three of the four shots she faced. 

INSIDE THE STATS

  • Along with her goal, Spezzano recorded a team-high 10 shots, including six on goal.
  • Four different player for Albertus Magnus registered at least two shots.
  • The Blue Jays held the edge in shots, 18-10, including a 9-4 edge in shots on goal.
  • Albertus Magnus won the battle in corner kicks, 7-3.
  • Both teams registered nine fouls.
