Stevens, Andrews Propel Women's Soccer to 2-0 Victory over Colby-Sawyer

NEW LONDON, N.H. - The Albertus Magnus College women's soccer team defeated the Chargers of Colby-Sawyer College in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action on Saturday afternoon, 2-0.

Haley Andrews (Prospect, Conn.) led the Falcons offensively with a goal and an assist, while Erina Ismaili (Middlebury, Conn.) netted her third goal of the season for the Falcons.

Amy Stevens (Lincoln, R.I.) started for the Falcons in goal and had her best game to date, making a season-high 11 saves in the contest for her second shutout of the year.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• The Falcons and Chargers traded shots for the majority of the first half before Andrews struck paydirt, rocketing the ball into the back of the net for the game's first score in the 36th minute.
Bridget Rosikiewicz (Naugatuck, Conn.) and Ashley Shaw (Milford, Conn.) fired off a shot in the final 10 minutes of the first half, but neither was able to extend the Falcons' advantage.
• The Chargers came out firing to start the second half, out-shooting AMC, 5-1, over the first 14 minutes.
• Colby-Sawyer goalkeeper Alexis Lebretron saved a Keegan Riccio (West Haven, Conn.) shot in the 64th minute before Ismaili took a perfect pass from Andrews and rifled a shot past LeBretron for the second goal of the match.
• The Chargers ripped off five straight shots over the next six minutes, but Stevens remained firm in the net and repelled the offensive attack.
• Colby-Sawyer continued to fire off shots over the final 15 minutes but could not sneak one past Stevens, who remained strong to secure the 2-0 shutout.

• The Chargers held the advantage in shots, out-shooting the Falcons by a 21-9 margin.
• Albertus out-cornered Colby-Sawyer, 5-2.

NOTEWORTHY
• With her three points in tonight's contest, Andrews now has 78 career points, putting her in sole possession of second place on the Albertus Magnus College all-time list.
• After recording a goal and an assist, Andrews climbed into a tie for second on the all-time Albertus leaderboard in goals (31) and assists (16).
• Stevens' 11 saves were a season-high for the freshman goalkeeper. 
• Ismaili's goal in tonight's contest is her third of the season, which is a new season-high for the junior forward.

The Falcons return home to challenge the Lasers of Lasell University in a conference clash on Wednesday, Sept. 21. The kick-off is set for 7 p.m.
