Riccio Nets Game-Winner as Women’s Soccer Rolls Past Dean, 1-0

FRANKLIN, Mass. - The Albertus Magnus College women's soccer team defeated the Bulldogs of Dean College in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) match-up by a final score of 1-0 on Wednesday afternoon at the Longley Athletic Complex.

Keegan Riccio (West Haven, Conn.) scored the lone goal in the match, rifling a shot past Bulldogs' keeper Haley Gaunt in the 23rd minute.

Amy Stevens (Lincoln, R.I.) had another stellar match between the pipes for the Falcons, going 4-for-4 in save opportunities to secure her sixth victory of the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• The teams traded shots over the first 20 minutes of play, with neither squad able to find the back of the net. 
• The Falcons finally struck pay dirt in the 23rd minute, as Riccio drilled a goal from about 40 yards out on a free kick. Riccio rocketed the ball towards the goal, with it dipping at the last second to fly under the crossbar.
• AMC continued to pressure the Bulldogs' defense, firing off an additional five shots and a corner kick over the remainder of the first half, with Haley Montesanto (East Haven, Conn.) taking two of the shots.
• The blue-and-white picked up right where they left off in the second stanza, firing four shots and a corner kick over the first 10 minutes of play.
• Albertus continued to pressure the Bulldogs over the final 30 minutes of play, out-shooting them by a 15-1 margin, but were unable to add to its total.
• Dean could not hang the game-tying tally on the board against the stalwart defensive work of the Falcons and the phenomenal play of netminder Stevens, allowing the blue-and-white to walk away with a 1-0 conference victory.

UP NEXT
The Falcons travel to Northfield, Vt., on Saturday, Oct. 22, to challenge the Norwich University Cadets in a conference clash. Kick-off is set for 4 p.m. at Sabine Field in Haynes Family Stadium.
