Andrews Breaks Program Record in All-Time Goals in Women's Soccer Home Setback Against Johnson & Wales

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Albertus Magnus College women's soccer team lost a hard-fought battle to the Wildcats of Johnson & Wales (R.I.) University on Tuesday night under the lights of Celentano Field by a final score of 4-2. 

Graduate student Haley Andrews (Prospect, Conn.) led the Falcons' offensive attack, scoring the team's two goals in the contest. Following her two-goal performance, Andrews now leads the program all-time in goals with a career total of 39, outscoring former Albertus women's soccer standout Danielle Polvan, who had a career total of 37. 

Erina Ismaili (Middlebury, Conn.) also tallied a point for the blue-and-white as she picked up an assist on Andrews' goal in the sixth minute. Freshman Amy Stevens (Lincoln, R.I.) started in net for the Falcons and made five saves in a complete-game effort. 

Prior to kick-off, the Albertus Magnus College women's soccer team honored its three-senior class - Amanda McGeehan (Milford, Conn.), Kelly Musante (Wallingford, Conn.), and Keegan Riccio (West Haven, Conn.) - and four graduate students - Andrews, Jordan Kikosicki (East Haven, Conn.), Haley Montesanto (East Haven, Conn.), and Bridget Rosikiewicz (Naugatuck, Conn.) - for their fierce competitiveness, hard work, and dedication to the women's soccer program over their tenure.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Six minutes into regulation, Andrews broke the scoreless drought and gave the Falcons the early one-goal advantage, following a short pass from Ismaili.

  • Less than five minutes later, JWU's Angelina Carrion placed the ball in the upper right-hand corner of the net, evening the game at 1-1. 
  • Carrion's goal in the 10th minute ignited the Wildcats' offense as the visitors tallied four shots attempts before Jordan Restivo doubled' the visitors lead, 2-1, on a penalty kick in the 24th minute.
  • With the first half coming to an end, JWU managed to tack on an additional goal in the 43rd minute by Mackenna Renaud.
  • Albertus' defense began to settle down and held off three straight shot attempts from the Wildcats to start off the second half. 
  • The Falcons threatened on three different occasions as Riccio, Tyana Jack (Bridgeport, Conn.), and Ashley Shaw (Milford, Conn.) each tallied a shot on goal, but were unsuccessful against the Wildcat keeper. 
  • JWU continued to pressure the Falcons' backline before Brittney Landry found an open gap between the pipes to put the game out of reach for the Falcons, 4-1. 
  • Albertus' final goal of the game came from Andrews in the 90th minute as a foul in the box forced a penalty kick and Andrews placed the ball perfectly between the pipes.

  • Andrews' two goals tonight gave her sole possession of the program's all-time goals record, as she has tallied 39 in her career.

  • Ismaili picked up her first assist of the season. 
  • Stevens finished the regular season in fourth place in the conference with a .833 save percentage and in fifth place with a 1.09 goals-against average.

The Falcons will now await their postseason fate when the GNAC Women's Soccer Tournament bracket will be released later this week following the conclusion of conference play on Wednesday, Oct. 26.
