HOW IT HAPPENED

The Albertus Falcons Women's Soccer  team led on two different occasions but a late goal from the University of Saint Joseph with 22 seconds left gave the Falcons their first loss of the season, 3-2 in their Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) opener.

Erina Ismaili (Middlebury, Conn.) scored both goals for the Falcons, including the first just 1:29 into the game to give Albertus a 1-0 lead, one which they would take into halftime.

A penalty kick by the Blue Jays tied the game up in the second half before Ismaili scored her second goal, after Sophia Vescera (Prospect, Conn.) made a great first touch to Ismaili between two defenders. Ismaili took a shot from about 25 yards out over the head of University of Saint Joseph goalkeeper, Madison Corcoran to put the Falcons back up, 2-1 in the 64th minute.

Jenna Zup scored her second goal of the game for the Blue Jays in the 81st minute, tying the game, 2-2.

With the game looking destined for a tie, Giliian Barresi of the Blue Jays took a pass from Jelly Frigo at the top of the 18-yard box and took a shot just out of the outstretched arms of Albertus goalkeeper, Amy Stevens (Lincoln, R.I.) with just 22 seconds remaining, giving the Blue Jays the win.
