Women’s Soccer Picks Up First GNAC Win Against Mitchell, 3-0

NEW LONDON, Conn. - The Albertus Magnus College women's soccer team defeated Mitchell College, 3-0, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) matchup on Wednesday afternoon. 

Victoria Jainchill (Simsbury, Conn.) and Tyana Jack (Bridgeport, Conn.) each scored for Albertus, while the first goal was credited as an own goal to Mitchell.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Falcons got on the scoreboard at the 12th minute on an own goal as the Mariners attempted to clear the ball. Mitchell continued to push in the first half, outshooting Albertus 8-5. On target, each team took three shots on goal.

Albertus struck again in the second half to go up 2-0 at the 61st minute. Jainchill found an opportunity to score as she took the ball up the left side, pushing past two defenders into the penalty box, and rocketing a shot into the net.

The Falcons kept the offensive threat alive, outshooting the Mariners 14-7 in the second half. In the 76th minute, Albertus pushed for its third goal as Ejalam Bravo (New Britain, Conn.) ran up to intercept a pass from the Mitchell goalkeeper. Bravo slotted a pass inside to Jack for an easy tap-in.
