Women’s Soccer Drops GNAC Contest to Lasell

NEWTON, Mass. - The Albertus Magnus College women's soccer team fell to the Lasers of Lasell University in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) contest on Wednesday afternoon, 6-2.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Lasers got on the board first, scoring in the 19th minute when Bobbi O'Guin found a cross into the box for Evelyn DiFiore to score. 

Shortly after, Ejalam Bravo (New Britain, Conn.) was fouled in the Lasers' penalty box, drawing a penalty kick for the Falcons in the 23rd minute of play. Bravo stepped up to the spot to pass a firm shot into the net to tie the game, 1-1.

The Lasers were able to grasp the lead in the 39th minute when DiFiore struck again, 2-1. Lasell continued to push to take a two-goal advantage over Albertus just one minute later off an own goal by the Falcons to close out the first half at a 3-1 scoreline.

Albertus came out in the second half to narrow the scoring gap when Bravo found Victoria Jainchill (Simsbury, Conn.) to score in the 55th minute, 3-2. Despite the Falcons edging the Lasers 7-6 in shots during the second half, Albertus was unable to score again.

The Falcon defense could not hold off the Lasers, who pushed to score three unanswered goals to end the game at 6-2.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • The Lasers edged the Falcons in shots, 19-16. However, the Falcons held the edge in shots during the second half, 7-6.

  • Lasell also out-cornered Albertus, 7-2.

NOTEWORTHY

  • Bravo is currently tied for second in the GNAC in assists. Her goal today was also her third of the season and fourth of her career.

  • Jainchill now has five goals on the season and eight in her career.

The Falcons return to action at Celentano Field against the Bulldogs of Dean College on Saturday, October 7. Kick off is set for 11 a.m.
