Women’s Soccer Draws With Saint Joseph’s (Me.)

STANDISH, Maine – The Albertus Magnus College women's soccer team drew with the Monks of Saint Joseph's College of Maine, 0-0, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) matchup on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Monks came out with five shots in the first 15 minutes, three of which were saved by Falcon goalkeeper Amy Stevens (Lincoln, R.I.). 

Both teams traded shots in the first half. The Monks held the edge with 11 shots compared to the Falcons with five. Sophia Vescera (Prospect, Conn.) led the offensive threat for Albertus with three shots on target. Stevens ended the first half with six saves while the Monks' goalkeeper, Carly Downey, finished with three.

The Falcons increased their scoring opportunities in the second half with 10 shots, six on target. The Monks did similarly with 13 shots total and six on frame. Stevens collected five saves in the second half while Downey had six.

Three players received yellow cards in the second half. Tyana Jack (Bridgeport Conn.) was issued a yellow for Albertus while Leila Weir and Mackenzie Farnham were cautioned for SJC. 

Neither team was able to find the back of the net before the final whistle, ending in a 0-0 draw.

  • Vescera led the offensive efforts for the Falcons with five shots, all on-target,

  • Stevens picked up her third game of the season with more than 10 saves.
