Four Falcons Finish in the Top Ten at USJ Pentathlon

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Albertus Magnus College women's swimming & diving team opened their season at the Blue Jay Pentathlon with fellow Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) opponents the University of Saint Joseph (CT), Elms College (MA), and Little East Conference (LEC) competitor Eastern Connecticut State University inside the Bruyette Natatorium on Friday evening. 

This annual event is one in which each swimmer can compete in one or all five of the events.  Competing in the pentathlon were Chloe Oliver (Milford, Conn.) (10th), Sabrinna Accioly (West Haven, Conn.) (8th), Maria Estrada (Guatemala City, Guatemala) (2nd), and Ana Lucia Gutierrez-Gomez (Hermosillo, Mexico) winning the overall event.  This quartet also made up all three of Albertus' top finishing relays.

"We are grateful to be competing in person again," said head coach Pallone. "We are a much better team than our inaugural season, however, there is still plenty of work to be done. We look forward to the rest of this 2021-22 campaign."

INDIVIDUAL RESULTS

  • 200 Yard Freestyle Relay 

    • The quartet of Gutierrez Gomez, Accioly, Oliver, and Estrada finished in fourth place with a time of 1:57.06. 

  • 100 Yard Backstroke

    • Estrada finished the event with a time of 1:13.43, placing her eighth overall.

  • 100 Yard Breaststroke

    • In her third appearance of the night, Estrada came in sixth place behind a time of 1:24.92.

    • Gutierrez-Gomez finished the event in eighth, with a time of 1:28.34.

  • 100 Yard Butterfly

    • Gutierrez-Gomez had a time of 1:07.92, finishing fourth overall in the event. 

    • Oliver posted an eighth-place finish, after recording a time of 1:19.76.

  • 200 Medley Relay

    • The foursome of Gutierrez-Gomez, Estrada, Oliver, and Accioly finished fourth in the medley behind a time of 2:20.30.

  • 100 Yard Freestyle

    • Gutierrez-Gomez claimed first place, with a time of 59.15.

    • Estrada had a time of 1:04.02, which was good for a fifth-place finish. 

  • 100 Yard Individual Medley

    • Estrada came in fourth with a time of 1.13.42 and claimed her second individual top-five finish of the night.  

    • Gutierrez-Gomez finished in seventh place with a time of 1:15.59. 

  • 400 Yard Freestyle Relay

    • The ensemble of Accioly, Oliver, Estrada, and Gutierrez-Gomez finished in fifth place to end the night with a time of 4:39.88

UP NEXT
The women's swimming & diving team returns to action on Saturday, Nov. 6 with a home meet against GNAC foes the University of Saint Joseph's (CT), Elms College, and Saint Joseph's College of Maine. The meet is scheduled to kick off at 1:00 PM at the Cosgrove Marcus Messer Athletic Center swimming pool.
