Malika Grant (Brooklyn, N.Y.) won No. 6 singles by two identical 6-0 sets to lead the Albertus Magnus women's tennis team in an 8-1 loss at Anna Maria on Saturday afternoon.
Saturday's match marked the first for the Falcons in 2011 as Anna Maria evened its overall record to 2-2 on the year.
Grant, a freshman at Albertus, shutout Anna Maria's Sam Wotton to begin the year with a record of 1-0 in singles' play.
Rebecca Weinberger (New Haven, Conn.) fell short in her match against Anna Maria's Kayla Buck as she lost the first set 6-1 but battled in the second, falling short in a 7-5 defeat.
Hayley Manson (North Attleboro, Mass.) also batted in her match but fell to Jacqui Barbaro 6-2, 6-4.
The Falcons will host Bay Path College on Sunday afternoon in non-conference action. The match is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. at the Celentano Courts.
